On January 16th the Moharimet Curriculum Enrichment Committee brought back a wildly popular event - The Taste of Moharimet! It was a fantastic evening that brought our community together, sharing food and stories from all over the world. The premise of the event was for community members to prepare a dish representing their family’s heritage. Families were invited to roam the school to taste each dish, learn about people’s cultures and enjoy conversation with the chefs and each other.
All the continents and 40 countries were represented with a wide variety of main dishes, appetizers, drinks and desserts. Each area was decorated with student art projects representing culture places from each continent. The continents were Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania and there was a huge variety in foods including curries, dumplings, stews, pasta, pierogies, wontons, smoothies, shortbreads, cookies and more! Tasting “passports” were handed out so that children could log the food of continents they visited and ultimately receive a dessert from Antarctica - a delicious ice pop.
Many thanks to the Moharimet Curriculum Enrichment Committee for organizing such a special and welcoming event while also taking care to monitor recipes for allergens and food preferences. Even more thanks to the families and staff who volunteered to cook and share their foods and stories. Amid the volunteers was Moharimet alum - Dennis Harrington - sharing his famous Indian curry! A cookbook of all the recipes served will be shared with the Moharimet community soon.
