On November 9, 2023, 5th grade Oyster River students walked to the Durham Town Hall to cast their vote in the 2024 New Hampshire Kid Governor election. This year, candidate Noah Sanders (Team Atlantic) was on the ballot alongside six other students from across the state of New Hamspshire.
Noah's campaign focused on homelessness and he was among several Oyster River students who developed a campaign platform for the primary election.
A warm thank you to the Town of Durham for arranging the visit, which allowed ORCSD students to vote using real privacy screens and cast their ballot in Durham's wooden ballot box, which dates to 1916.
Students were greeted by Town Clerk Rachel Deane and Deputy Town Clerk Audrey MacKenzie, a former ORMS teacher, who checked students' IDs and gave them a ballot and a sticker.
The program was coordinated for the second year in a row by Oyster River Middle School Teacher Diana Pelletier.
Students celebrated casting their vote alongside Superintendent Morse and Assistant Superintendent Filippone.
Town Clerk Rachel Deane and Deputy Town Clerk Audrey MacKenzie welcomed the students, checked their IDs, and handed them a ballot and sticker.
