Have you heard of Oyster River Middle School’s (ORMS) Literary Magazine club? Founded by ORMS Language Arts Teacher Laurenne Berner, Literary Magazine is a club for students interested in creating, editing, and publishing a school magazine.
Literary Magazine meets once a month in Mrs. Berner’s room after school, and the magazine is published once quarterly.
When working on a publication, interested students of grades 5 to 8 work with Mrs. Berner to brainstorm ideas for stories and topics. Once a list of potential topics has been drawn, each student decides which one they would like to work on as well as the medium used.
Whether it's penning a short story, drawing a colorful illustration, designing the cover, or crafting a poem, students are free to explore their creative sides freely. The magazine they create is a reflection of their collective imagination and talent.
Literary Magazine club isn't just about producing content, it's also about building a community amongst students who appreciate the power of creativity.
By providing a space where students can express themselves and share their work, the club fosters a supportive atmosphere for self-expression and artistic growth. Each month brings fresh ideas and new projects, making it a highly anticipated activity.
Students who are looking for an opportunity to get inspired and expand their horizons are warmly invited to connect with Mrs. Berner.
Students enjoy snacks and the latest edition of Mouth of the River (MOR), Oyster River High School’s award-winning student-led publication.
Mrs. Berner works with students once a month to refine their ideas and create compelling stories.
Literary Magazine club is an outlet for students to explore multiple sides of their creativity.
