ORMS Robotics Teams Win Honors in Competition

The Oyster River Cooperative School District and Principal Jay Richard wish to congratulate Oyster River Middle School robotics teams for their performances in recent events.

More than 75 Middle School students competed in a Vex IQ Challenge event on Nov. 5, qualifying for a Nov. 19 competition in Candia. Five Oyster River teams’ performances qualified for the State Championship. Oyster River teams won a number of honors at the Candia event, including the Teamwork Competition, Skills Award, Design Award, and Excellence Award.

The State Qualifiers are:

  • Team 2820A: Andrew Lu, Fiona Liu, Olivia Liu
  • Team 2820B: Sid Arthanat, Tino Leo, Ian Zhou, Advait Govindarajula, Yash Joglekar
  • Team 2820C: Nick Hodgdon, Ian Johnson, Andrew McCaffrey, Chase Prompradit, Josh Tomlinson
  • Team 2820D: Eli Evans, Cal Kimball, James Saunders, Brayden Alvarez, Xander Ahn
  • Team 2820E: Yizhou Zhao, Jack Howey-Clark, Samuel Li, Sanchin Webber, Thomas Mullins

The District and Principal Richard also wish to acknowledge the coaches, faculty, staff, and community partners that have offered guidance and support.

The Middle School also will host a Vex IQ Challenge on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Forty-one teams representing 12 robotics programs will participate, including 52 ORMS students.

Individual events take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The championship round of 10 teams will take place from 2:30-3 p.m.

This year’s competition, called Slapshot, consists of four events:

  • The Teamwork Challenge, in which two team robots collaborate to score as many points as possible in 60 seconds.
  • The Robot Skills Challenge, in which one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible
  • Driving Skills Matches, which will be entirely driver-controlled.
  • Programming Skills Matches, which will be autonomous with limited human interaction.

Family members and friends of ORMS participants are encouraged to attend.
