On November 9, veterans, active military and service providers from Durham, Lee, and Madbury were invited to attend a celebration in honor of Veteran's Day at the Oyster River Middle School.
A breakfast was provided by the school PTO and culinary team and students of all grade levels were invited to seize the opportunity to honor family members.
8th grade student Georgia Leone sang the national anthem and Principal Sullivan thanked everyone for their service and for attending. Both veterans and active military personnel in attendance were invited to introduce themselves and were celebrated by a round of applause from the audience.
School Counselor Stephanie Kadden who coordinated the event shared: "Our Veteran's Day breakfast is aimed to not only honor veterans and active military members, but to bring them together as a community to connect with each other and their family members who attend the middle school. We also want to include local service providers, such as the fire and police departments, because of their efforts to our local community. It was a great event and I hope everyone walked away feeling acknowledged and appreciated!"
"It was an honor to welcome veterans and service providers to Oyster River Middle School for our Veteran’s Day breakfast," said Principal Sullivan. "They are true heroes and we are blessed to have them as part of our school community."
Oyster River students Georgia Leone, who sang the national anthem, and Zadi Hale welcomed guests for the special event.
Guests were served a delicious breakfast provided by the school PTO and culinary team.
