ORHS Students Place in the Congressional Art Competition

Oyster River High School (ORHS) juniors Lucas Caparso and Axel Freund earned praises for the photography work they submitted to the 2024 Congressional Art Competition.

Both Lucas and Axel placed in the competition and traveled to Manchester in May where they attended a reception hosted by Congressman Chris Pappas.

"I chose to submit one of my older photos, which means it's unedited”, said Axel. “I used to like the look of unedited photos better. This is a perfect photo to have unedited, because I don't think it needs to be."

ORHS Art Teacher Hettie Haudenschield shared, “Axel and Lucas are extraordinary photographers. Everyone in the Oyster River High School Art Department is thrilled that they have been recognized for their creativity and efforts.”

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual opportunity for high school students to be honored for their artistic talent. The competition is sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in collaboration with the Congressional Institute.

The winning artwork is displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, as part of an exhibit with winners from around the country.
