Oyster River Middle School (ORMS) students raised $3,067 in May 2024 to benefit End 68 Hours of Hunger.

End 68 Hours of Hunger is a nonprofit organization that provides food bags for school children who face food insecurity over the weekend. The organization’s name refers to the 68-hour gap between a student’s last Friday school meal and the following Monday breakfast at school.

ORMS dedicated the month of May to the importance of giving back to the community. Principal Sullivan and Assistant Principal Carter worked with ORMS students of all grade levels, staff, and faculty to organize several events.

Together they hosted Service Palooza, Arts & Humanities Night, and the Student Leadership Committee organized a food drive which brought in over 5,000 food items. The items were donated to local food pantries.

All the money collected during ORMS’ May events, including Spring Fling’s, was donated to End 68 Hours of Hunger.

The total amount of money raised is $3,067.

“We are really happy to donate these funds to such a worthy cause,” said Principal Sullivan. “It makes the collective work we put into organizing these events really worth it”.

End 68 Hours of Hunger Program Coordinator Doris Demers shared, "We are extremely grateful for the support from our students, faculty and staff, our families and community to help keep this program going strong. This donation will be extremely helpful in purchases for the summer food bags."
