Dear Oyster River Students, Parents, Caregivers, and Community Members,
ORCSD bus routes are now available online. You may find your child(ren)'s bus number and bus stop location by visiting our website's bus route page and searching your home address and your child(ren)'s grade level in the top left corner as shown below.
Bus routes are regularly updated throughout the school year and may fluctuate due to registration. We therefore strongly encourage you to check this information again prior to the first day of school and throughout the school year.
Ongoing Road Work in Durham
Thank you for your collaboration and patience during school pick-up and drop-off at the Oyster River middle and high schools. Mornings and afternoons can be hectic, and we understand how frustrating it can be to sit in traffic.
Due to several ongoing road work projects in Durham which will remain active through the end of fall, we strongly encourage all middle and high school students to ride the bus. Fewer cars mean less traffic and a more sustainable commuting option.
If you registered your child(ren) as not needing transportation and wish to make that change, please email Transportation Dispatch/Assistant Director Lisa Huppe at lhuppe@orcsd.org.
Should you or your child(ren) drive or walk to the Oyster River Middle School (ORMS) or Oyster River High School (ORHS) in the coming weeks, please note the following:
- The Department of Transportation and the Town of Durham recommend to access both ORMS and ORHS via Bagdad Rd.
- Delays are to be expected, please allocate additional time for your commute.
- Access to Madbury Rd and some sidewalks is limited, please remind walkers of the importance of safe behaviors.
- Respect dedicated drop-off and pick-up areas. Drop-off areas in front of the school are designed for the overall safety of our students. Unauthorized student drop-off and pick-up on the street creates hazardous situations.
- Please do NOT use the SAU, Service Building, or Facilities parking space to drop-off or pick-up students.
- Do NOT attempt to pass vehicles in the middle/opposite lane of Bagdad Rd. Before 3:00 p.m. on school days, the School Resource Officer or other traffic safety officer will make sure traffic is clear and incoming traffic can safely pass the vehicles waiting in line. Once student dismissal begins at 3:00 p.m., incoming vehicles must stay in the waiting line until instructed otherwise. Through traffic may want to find an alternate route during afternoon pick-up.
- When instructed to stop, you must STOP immediately. Do not attempt to drive around the School Resource Officer or other traffic safety officer.
- Do NOT make U-turns in the road. U-turns are a dangerous maneuver that can cause an accident. Making a U-turn is against the Town of Durham Traffic Regulations, Chapter 153.
- Consider planning an alternate meetup location for your student.
Thank you for your help with keeping Oyster River students safe.
